A brief history of Conferences in Armenia

Armenia, particularly the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO) and the Armenian Astronomical Society (ArAS), have rich tradition of organizing international meetings. 6 International Astronomical Union (IAU) Symposia and Colloquia were organized in 1966, 1986, 1989, 1998, 2001 and 2013. The all-European Annual Meeting JENAM (Joint European and National Astronomical Meeting) was held in 2007 having 6 parallel symposia and 8 parallel sessions. The first International Conference on the Communication with the Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CETI) was organized in 1971 in Byurakan. BAO and ArAS have organized UNESCO Conference on the Astronomical Heritage of the Middle East in 2017. A regular series of Byurakan International Summer Schools (BISS) for young astronomers is being held since 2006, once in every 2 years. Many other meetings and schools were organized, including those related to Archaeoastronomy and Astronomy in Culture.
