The Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology (CSHST). Established in October of 1980, CSHST is a nation-wide non-governmental organization for research in the field of the history of science. It is subordinated to the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST). Currently, the Society has nearly 1300 registered members. Former Presidents of the Society include: Qian Linzhao, Ke Jun, Lu Jiaxi, Lu Yongxiang, Xi Zezong, Liu Dun, and Liao Yuqun. Its present president is Professor Sun Xiaochun. The Society maintains twenty-eight Scientific Commissions. Since its founding forty years ago, the CSHST has held strong relations with international community of historians of science. Its members regularly participate in the series of conferences on the history of East Asian science, technology and Medicine. Since the 16th ICHS held in Bucharest in 1981, the Society has sent delegations to every subsequent congress of IUHPST/DHST. Working closely with the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, the CSHST organized the 22nd International Congress of the History of Science held in Beijing in July, 2005.

The Preparatory Committee for the International Society for Science and Civilization on the Silk Road (ISSCSR). The Preparatory Committee for the ISSCSR will hold the First International Meeting on Science and Civilization on the Silk Road (IMSCSR) along with the 15th ICHCST. The Silk Road symbolizes communication between civilizations and the interaction of ideas and cultures across the world. The legacy of the Silk Roads is particularly relevant in our age of globalization, when people of many different cultures, regions and languages are in close contact more than ever before. While science and technology play a dominant role in our modern society, the humanities provide an understanding of cultural diversities of our world that will help promote communication and collaboration across cultures. It is necessary to break off the rigid boundary that often keeps our disciplines apart from each other, and to open them to the plurality of world cultures. The aim of the Society is to bring together scholars from around the world to promote research on science and civilization on the Silk Road. The research will be multidisciplinary, bringing together many fields in science and the humanities, such as history and philosophy of science, astronomy, mathematics, archaeology, geography, literature and art, medicine, agriculture, folklore, anthropology, etc.

This initiative has been endorsed by the International Council of Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH), the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology/Division of History of Science and Technology (IUHPST/DHST) and the China Association of Science and Technology (CAST), the administrative umbrella organization of non-governmental scientific organizations. We have been discussing with dozens of scholars around the world to work out an integrated and meaningful scientific agenda for the Society.
